lost fools

This morning there was a truck, with four or five people.  It was a ciity truck, whose passengers were going up and down the street looking in trashcans.  I'm heard of and seen curb shoppers but what in the world were they doing?  Together, I think they made one mind and I don't mean in ideal or direction but rather mentality.

Welcoming Wednesday

Well, though there's not much on the forefront, on the back lawn there have been brnaches galore from the insidious storms knocking down sturdy trees and drowning patches of grass.  Following that, there is the great drought which spans the migration of the theat to this area.

Father played through all the rounds of golf on Tuesday and today -- marking a hopeful end to the tragic half-games he's been playing due to his sore shoulder.  Mum has been taking sewing classes and helping friend Betty with some of her issues.  Today Lois is at bible study, but doubts little of that will be doen in favor of working on Betty's problems -- though unsolvable through conversation.

Marcus scored points against the tree by climbing it, cutting down limbs and hacking those apart.  In a final defiant gesture, the dead limbs lashed at his eye causing him 24 hours of pain, but no real damage.  Wicked as the branches are the trash service will haul them away to the old landfill that has been expanded (roughly doubling its size).

Wait a moment -- I'm writing in reversal chronological order -- oh, well ... deal with it.

On Monday Jessica has to mow the grass, but got a migraine and had to reject it -- not to Marcus' surprise, she felt amazingly better when a friend called for a sleep over.  Imagine that!  On the way back from dinner at Bob Evans, Marcus saw a turle on the road -- actually the railroad.  Marcus, I, stopped the van, ran out and got it.  I gave it to Jessica in the van to release at a safer point and area.  She was delighted to do so.

Lickable wallpaper

Echo, Cheyenne and I were on a morning walk today and toward the end of the trip, there was an ivy-covered fence.  They very much enjoyed smelling and licking parts of it.  It was much like Willy Wonka's lickable wallpaper.

The Retriever, tastes just like retreiver; the bassett hound tastes just like bassett hound; try it; the chipmunk tastes just like chipmunk.

There were a few cats along the way, but they were undisturbed, thankfully.

Pool, cards, and the death of a toy

Diane asked for help putting up their pool. I helped, but the parts were looking shabby after 2.3 seasons stored. Diane ordered some spare parts, but not enough of the plastic ones ... oh, well. It takes 2 some days to fill the pool, due to low water pressure and size of pool.

Thomas and Lois play cards with friends and this weekend it was at their house. I haven't found out yet, but likely the girls won again ... winning 92% of the time. They had so much to eat there, no one I know would leave hungry, except by volition.

Marcus is dog sitting -- previous posts, and the dogs still bite and chew each other ad nausium. It was great in the morning ... 60s, but it took a long while to cool down in the afternoon. They took a nap, Marcus, though he needed one, did not. The dogs, in a typical gesture of battle, like crocodiles, teamed up to tear a toy to shreds ... the insides pulled out like scarecrow on the field.

The good thing is, that their impalers (teeth) are short in contrast to their wicked sharpness.

The cat who wasn't breakfast

During the morning walk today, there was a cat in his lawn.  He was black, bold and not intimidated by the "ha ha to you canines" leashed dogs.  Despite their best bouncing and jumping efforts, he did not move.  He kept out of leash range -- how he knew where that was I don't know.  Echo and Cheyenne were incensed.

Echo's belly still makes some funky sounds, but he seems to be feeling well, getting sick last night on the blanket (thankfully not on the bed) and later at the threshold to the outside door.

Far cleverer, from my observations, he wore a torn toy around his neck -- like a candy necklace, chew when needed.

Dog Days

Echo Cheyenne in action
Originally uploaded by MDH, II.
Day one of puppy sitting. I got wicked rest last night, as these rascals were chewing on each other for an hour before they would go to rest. On top of that, they would whine (near snoring) and other times whine for being pet. They were a difficult couple with whom to sleep.

Here they are featured chewing on each other -- a great and grand sport with almost no end.

I was reminded of Jaws when Echo approached Cheyenne with a clump of polyfill in his mouth. The toy shown (upper left corner) was eviserated and the sad remains were strewn about the floor.

I took them for a 90 minute walk this morning, but they didn't potty at any time during the trip, they save that for the house floors. Thanks puppies!

The neighbors wondered when I would return, as I left the puppies to go to a friend's house then returned at around 10:20 pm. It was nice of her to check.

Thursday

Days of whines and roses. Boy is it hot! It'll get hotter, it's only 88 degrees and climbing with 110% humidity. Later, it will get in high nineties with the same humidity. How do I know it's this hot?
When you sweat, it should roll off you, but now it just adds to the growing film around you that really doesn't cool you off unless your hood surfing (riding outside the car/truck).

Lois and Diane went to another sewing class today as scheduled. Yesterday there was a glitch. The teacher didn't show, so a stand-in, the teacher whom they have today, winged it, knowing nothing of what was to be accomplished. Hey, subbing -- know about that! No news on why the teacher was a no-show.

Marcus begins his 5-day puppy sitting of the chewers, in that when they aren't chewing cords, wood, furniture, they are chewing a person or each other. They are cute, but it takes a long while to get them to settle down into cuddly-lovy little puppies. Much to my friends' displeasure, they are slowly consuming a rose bush, branch and trunk at a time. You'd think the thorns would be a distraction, a detterment, but no.

In the area, a road is being constructed and the area is a mess. I'd like to think and hope that it would be a month only, but more likely the road will be clearer and emanicapated by Thanksgiving, though not done.

Really, this is a typical sight.

Winged pig, winged pig, find somewhere else to eat!

Not by the seed in my lazy birdie beak.

Then I'll get me a kittie to chase you off your roost.

Only with a hawk will you give your threat a boost.

None were eaten today, but later some will be fodder. Interestingly, the falcons and hawks tend to eat the birds that move -- fly, not walk around like obese fowl with boulders in their bellies.

Schmucks amok

What in the world? The white truck, from posts past, is back yet again! Did they drop a watch down there ... a wallet, keys? Why are they back again? Two guys, no brain, and a truck. I think they are installing security equipment or something. It can't be just sewer liner. No way!

Anyway, Lois is off with Diane doing sewing class re-learning with her ultra high-tech sewing machine from Janome. It is the computer of sewing machine with a large array of attachments; peripherals, to buy for it. I hope that she enjoys the class today -- chances are for rain.

Later Lois will go with friends for bible study. It starts late today, it will likely end late. Thomas is looking around to find a guide book to the sewing desk, as it doesn't raise and lower like his thinks it should. After an hour, I suspect he will surrender. I stand corrected, he found it well buried. It's a father thing ... play with it continually.

Thomas and Marcus have replaced indoor door knobs with handles. It makes it easier to open and close as Mom's arthritis is painful and cramping.

Marcus has destroyed yet another external hard drive case, number two. I will have to get another one at Office Depot later. I also sold my old 35 mm camera and hope to get paid soon.

Tuesday revival

Mum had more tests, then off to help friend Betty and finally to prepare for other events in the week. Father took off for golf but sadly got sore quickly and stopped after the 5th hole. His shoulder is still sore, weeks later. He rode with friends on the cart the rest of the time.

Mum's knees are still very sore and each day she feels a little better, but not enough so.

Marcus got a stange call from Diane. She needed help assembling a crib. She couldn't figure it out. It wasn't a matter of thinking, but a matter of parts, as they weren't all there. The company's webstie was as useful as bbq sauce on a milkshake. They didn't have an ordering process and didn't show you where to buy. What a piece o' crap.

After calling the compnay, is wasn't a surprise that parts weren't made for an 18 year old crib. Write it off ... just write it off. It reamins unassembled.

Marcus had given up on selling his old camera, but interstingly he had questions from people including a man wantint to know shipping to France. As the time expired on the sale it sold for the minimum price to a Florida family. I packed it tightly and shipped it. I hope to get paid soon.

Unrelated to any of that, there is an odd bird in the area. It's a bald cardinal, the reason for its baldness is still a mystery but Lois read that diet can contribute to such changes.

Marcus' change of plans

He is done with teaching. It was always fun, though challenging. It was the only job I ever had that I never thought -- gee, payday, in that the job wasn't miserable. I liked it, though some days it was very difficult. Time and life will see what the future holds. It was a fun trip, but Marcus now moves on.

To let you know, no ... it isn't a mid-life crisis thing.

Called it a shrine

Jenny shrine
Originally uploaded by MDH, II.
Awards, accomplishments, photo montage. You've come a long way Jenny! Through turmoil you've triumphed, through stress, you've soared, be weary now, your decisions are now your own.

Off to IU or a branch of it ... seeking knowledge, veterinary medicine your goal -- years to work.

Congratulations!

Your party seemed to go well.

Kersplat!

Hey! The coffee maker is spilling just everywhere. We tried to sop up the mess to no avail. Hold it! It's leaking all over everywhere. Man! The filter tray was missing.

So -- what happened?

There Diane was trying to win a bet with Jim that they would indeed need the coffee pots. Diane hastily put it together, but she doesn't drink coffee. It turned out bad ... really bad. Up stepped Marcus to hose off the rest of the unit after Bethy and Debbie mucked out the "stalls" as it were. In the end, four towels were spent cleaning up the mess.

Debbie declined coffee after that. She dully noted that amidst six flavors of soda, punch, water, milk, tea, iced tea ... coffee had to be made. There weren't enough choices!

In the background, not so quietly, people were trying to celebrate Jenny's graduation, but that is another story ... [dramatic music]

Friend in Need

Betty, long-time friend of Lois, is worried and concerned.  She appears to have high stress and is forgetting things. To this extent, Mom's worried about her, so decided to go talk with her and make a "friendly" assessment of her abilities.  The friend is not so willing to quietly go to an assisted living facility, but that might do her well.  Who knows what the world shall bring?

How Jessica spends her summer

This is how Grandfather contributes, paying Jessica to mow. She doesn't mind it so much, giving her some money, but it isn't her passion for sure. Thomas, Lois, Jessica might go to Ribfest 2006 this year.

Jealousy

I was at a friend's house last night and he has a very pampered dog. My friend was also watching his sister's dog. The interloper was not made to feel all that welcome by my friend's dog, but few fights that I saw, arose.
The little visiting dog crawled up to me and continually wanted her belly and bum rubbed and scratched. Her behavior with the bum scratching lead me to believe it was more like feeding an addiction.Maia on the prowl

Maia sniffing MillieMillie takes Maia's toy
Millie looking for other trouble
While I was on the couch with them, they both were vying for my attention, finally Maia decided that I could have no other dog in my life and started the growling.

Day 2 of the Occupation

We are trapped yet again, with minimal access. They've made no demands, so I don't know what surrendering will do.

Didn't we see this stuff yesterday? Oh, wait ... it's a differnt truck, but same location. What did we do wrong?

What's this? They moved the recylcing and cans out of the way and, uh ... making them unavailable?

Cones? Blocking us again?

Great! Thanks guys! Finish -- NOW!

Blocked morning

We got a notice that the city and a subcontracted company actually doing the work, would be in the area installing a new non-digging system for improved septic/waste sewer systems. The comany requested that we minimize our usage of toilets, showers, baths, dishwashers, washers on this day. Now, I guess it is luck or misfortune that our house is in the middle of the block ... the trucks favor this driveway over any other. I'm glad that we had no need for hospital or anything ... yikes!

This ladder was around 25-30' tall. The machine, thankfully was not as loud as a trash truck, but stayed for hours.

The blue hose is not, indeed the liner, but the liner, miles of it, was in the white truck that was, in the morning, butted up against the pump truck, making moving out of the driveway -- impossible.

Now, they have it moved to the neighbors, but wait .... what's that?Nice place for gas there buddies! I'm sure the neighbor, good man, appreciates that wholly!

Today ... Tuesday, another day

Thomas woke sore and needs the rest for a long day -- golf in the sun followed by poker til 11:00. Lois went to a meeting with a small group who support each other in a task -- Christian-based. She has had a few meetings and seems to like it well.

Marcus, having yet, another few days off, has spent time searching for prices on old multi-national beer cans, an old collection of a neighbors. He also unsuccessfully tried to sell an old camera on eBay. One person has posed questions to him and to aid this interested party, started a quick-to-be terminated blog showing pictures of the camera. If Marcus collected anything, he could begin selling stuff, but Marcus isn't a collector of anything to sell.

Marcus does collect music -- lots of it. Naturally, he tends to favor things he likes, but will venture out and get stuff for others including Red Skelton, Bob Hope, Amos & Andy, days worth of childrens music (based on cumulative lengths of songs), 60s - current music with about all of the 70s, most of the 80s, lots of the 60s and 50s. You'd think he was an old fart, but just a fart. When you reach 85, you're old, until then, you're only working on getting there.

Another project that will require all three is the archive of photos from so many decades. Thomas and Lois have the names and activities of these 1,000s of photos and Marcus presently has some time to scan them to flickr for archival use. If there were ever a fire ... the pictures wouldn't be lost. Now, Marcus has almost all of his reasonable photos online. The scanning and uploading of photos is a long process. It isn't difficult, but Thomas and Lois are not interested in learning how.

It is another glorious day -- Marcus plans to make some time to enjoy it!

Thomas, Lois, and Marcus are also interested in hearing news of Angel "Goldilocks" as Lois calls her), Diane's family's dog, who needed an emergency hysterectomy. Diane made no mention of her health yesterday, so still, we are concerned.

Moan-day

beautiful skies ... cool breeze ... no complaints, save Marcus' car. The gears are slipping -- being a really old car, there is not point in fixing it. A new car is needed. Anyway,
Thomas and Lois went out with friends, whom they see rarely. They ate at a diner, redone in Statue of Liberty props and pictures. The owner is Greek, but highly patriotic. It's a testiment to the joy of one person's love for independance.

Marcus took time to try to photograph interesting things, but all things being even -- more remote locations were unavailable. Marcus stopped at the Allen County Verterans Shrine. He has been there before and photographed what's there, but this time with more sun. Here is a Korean War Memorial ... as large as the more remote Vietnam memorial. It's truly sad to see so many names -- those only from the area. There would be no green, but only bricks were each and every fallen person have his/her own brick here.

God bless them!

Jenny graduates

Please welcome the class of 2006

Congratulations Jenny!

Germanfest blast, not bust

Thomas and Lois met up with friends last night at Germanfest 2006 and had a good time. The brats, beer, sauerkraut, band were all okay. Their parking was close, weather cool, pleasant with breeze sprinkled with scents of bloom from the four blocks of trees. The park nearby had hawkers (sellers of stuff you don't need) and fountain users; across the lane, down in the slightly-elevated valley, a free fountain where children and adults romp and play. Summarized -- good eats, neat treats, progress (walking through mass patrons) grand feat!

Marcus in the meanwhile went to see Pixar's Cars, with friends and felt that it was okay, but just that. After that, he met up with them and their puppies who tumble over each other and bounce, bound and play. They love to jump, which is dangerous as they will be heavy and huge as adults -- relatively incurable habit by that time. They are rotweiler-German shepherd mix boy and girl from the same litter. Their preference is to play on top of a person, regardless whether the person is part of the play or not.

Wonderful day with weather

So ... planting it was. Lois, Thomas, and Marcus planted some plants around the area, having discovered a toad yesterday we were careful. It wasn't to be found today, sniff.

In lighter news -- hummingbirds are coming the the area frequently and the robins in the nest are getting stronger, larger.

Thomas and Lois are going to Germanfest tonight downtown, while Marcus had gone down last night. Marcus reported dissatisfaction with prices for parking, pitchers, and the overall waiting. The prices on food isn't too bad, but the general valume in the area is deafening. Oi!

Fort Wayne is a German town, despite its name, and there are many German associations here. I would also like some Irish groups, but they are few and far between. The greatest number of so-called Irish folk come out for St. Patrick's day and kill their livers -- paying no heed to the accomplishments of St. Patrick and ignorant as to why he was important.

Marcus doesn't eat German food -- so he stuck with the overpriced Bitburger. The dance floor generally had poeple dancing, including the chicken dance and three-instrument polka.

Marcus, later went out to see Cars.

Birthdays belated

Thomas and Lois are heading to Diane's tonght for a celebration dinner for their birthdays -- yes, we're celebrating late this year. As Marcus has been around for the birthdays and since he had already made plans for the evening with a friend to go to Germanfest, he won't be attending.

I hope that all parties get pictures.

Hummm

the sound that I heard last year with the hummingbirds.  I am not so lucky this year, but have seen more of them, I think.  There are two feeders and generally, the green iredescent birds will feed every hour for a few seconds at a time.  This morning I saw a ruby-throated male, but didn't have my camera to get him on film.  That's a shame.  He'll be back.

Last year to Thomas, Lois, and Marcus' surprise we found that hummingbirds make noise.  Soemtimes it is an angry loud noise (reletively speaking) when they are battling for their position in line for drinking.  They exhaust more energy fighting that they could ever acquire from feeding sips for seconds.  Crazy, silly things!

Phones don't cry, they die

Two phones dead in seemly random acts of degeneration. They will be replaced, but 20 year old phones can't be "duplicated". Thomas and Lois are out to buy a new phone and a new DVD player -- hopefully with success today. Their prior effors were met with disappointment.

Jessica graduates middle school

Jessica graduated from middle school today!  The program was fine; all the kids were thankful to leave.  Many tears and smiles were shared.

Congratulations Jessica!

No news, just figures

Lois went to the Coumadin clinc today -- simple blood and drug tests wing of the hospital. She has been doing this for a while. She gets -- 2.3, okay. Thanks! We'll see you in a while. Next!

Not big, but new

Thomas and Lois bought a new DVD player from Best Buy, as their old one was iffy. They had to, at times, tap it or slay it to get it to spin. The new DVD player had a remote smaller than a cellphone. The buttons, therefore, were close and small so that most persons using it would press at least two buttons. They never even tried it, for there was little point.

Thomas and Marcus were working on a flower bed in the front yard which was surround by old rocks. The rocks were removed and replaced with pre-fab stone fence pieces – 4-6” high x 16” wide (pictures in a later post) in a rectangle shape. Grass had consumed the area, all but a few plants were choked off by Indiana grass. Thomas and Lois went out today to find new flowers – Marcus will be responsible for planting the new acquisitions.

Ana's graduation party

We got a late start, but we got to Westfield to celebrate Ana's graduation from WHS. Predominately, her friends made up the crowd -- go figure. Many of them had other parties to see, visit and host. We weren't there long, but seemed to have a good time just chatting. Toby & Thunder sought attention and got it.

Congratulations Ana!!
Ana has chosen to go to IU; good for her!

Be sure to log on your account, otherwise you'll see only public pictures -- nothing of the reunion.

10:00 and all is still wet

Rain rain go away for say ... a couple of days please?! We've had lots of rain, some of which went into my car, as the windows were down. Lois, Thomas, and Marcus were at Logan's restaurant (chain serving peanuts at the table) when the sky opened up. It was Lois' birthday and we had a huge, overly filling meal.
